Biomass Combustion Systems (BCS): Prefeasibility Analysis (1998)

Client: Natural Resources Canada – CANMET Energy Diversification Research Laboratory (CEDRL).

SGA conducted prefeasibility analyses of 6 Canadian northern remote communities to determine the technical and financial feasibility of BCS in large community buildings.SGA employed a standard spreadsheet based model to analyze the heating energy requirements, project costs, and financial returns in each case.

The biomass model is designed to provide a pre-feasibility study level of economic analysis in the form of, internal rate of return and, simple payback financial results. Additionally, the model provides estimates of heating load, boiler sizing, biomass fuel usage, and a breakdown of project costs by category.
