North Korea Wind Energy Project (1999)

Client: United Nations Development Program and the Global Environment Facility (GEF)

SGA identified and prepared a Global Environment Facility (GEF) project in order to boost the small wind energy sector on the road to full scale commercialization in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) by assisting wind energy conversion (WECS) manufacturers and targeting the rural sector market. The project had three objectives: Strengthen national capacity to identify, plan and evaluate wind power project potential; improve the in-country capacity to manufacture, install and service cost-effective small wind systems; and Strengthen national capacity to promote small wind systems in the rural market.
